Policies
The Green Housekeeper Ltd.

We have a strong environmental policy – achieving our CBEN award at Bronze and Silver level and now actively working towards Gold Level, with every intention of going for Gold in 2011.

We are members of: Cumbria Green Business Forum and The Federation of Small Businesses

We are against animal testing; we operate a strict fixed cut off date (FCOD) policy.  All of our suppliers conform to this - or they no longer supply us – simple!

Hand made all of our products are made by hand in small batches.

Hand made – all of our products are made by hand in small batches. Being entirely natural we want them to reach you as fresh as possible - time consuming but incredibly satisfying plus this method carries the lowest possible carbon footprint – no machinery!

Ethical sourcing – all ingredients are ethically sourced; see our ingredients page for further information. We passionately feel that this is a much broader topic.

Ethical sourcing all ingredients are ethically sourced

The Green Housekeeper has sourced everything it uses, from within the UK, ingredients, packaging, paper, consumables, support services, tradesmen – everything. We work with small businesses that also care about what they do. This increases our costs and certainly is massively expensive when compared to purchasing from abroad, but we feel it is vital to support other UK businesses and we do our best to help, only in a small way at the moment but we hope to build on this!

We do not, and will not, export. We are proud to be British manufacturers.

Air Miles - We do not, and will not, export. We are proud to be British manufacturers. Products from our website have zero air miles to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible.

Fair made - means literally that! Although we are a small business we are trying to incorporate industry recognised standards in order that we can grow. Our products are fully COSHH assessed and we have SDS for all ingredients.

We work along the same principles as the BRC.  We hope that by putting in these foundation stones now we can build a strong base from which we can provide worthwhile, fulfilling and family friendly (Monday to Friday, flexible hours)  employment to local people, unrelated to tourism.  Oh please do not think we are being critical – tourism is utterly essential to where we live - but here we could offer some diversification of employment. No offence intended.

Simplicity – we believe in keeping things as simple as we can.  We colour code our products.

We have given each area a Green Housekeeping character; she represents all of our principles and upholds them.   The characters themselves were carefully drawn by Lauren, we write newsletters from them and they each have factsheets about their specific areas.  We find this helpful in our marketing, essentially the characters are based on us and people we know and admire. The ladies also make it possible for us to add products as we can, currently we are working on the laundry (aren’t we always?)!

We take bold steps into the future - we believe that the road to success runs alongside the need to make innovation a driving force, this applies not just to our products but also the further development of The Green Housekeeper Ltd in technical and organisational terms.

For further information and copies of policies and factsheets please do contact us.  Suggestions, requests, we will do our utmost to accommodate.

Finally – at The Green Housekeeper Ltd we believe in behaving fairly.  We treat our customers, suppliers and competitors as we ourselves would like to be treated: we do want to be successful, but not at any price.
